The lovely community of Burtonsville is located in Montgomery County at the crossroads of Maryland Route 198 and U.S. Route 29. Burtonsville  is located only  25 miles from Baltimore and Washington D.C. , which are the capitals of Maryland and United States, respectively. Burtonsville's history goes back to Colonial times and pioneer Isaac Burton. In 1825, Isaac bought out his siblings and became the largest landowner in the area. Isaac and his wife had seventeen children and their families have formed the backbone of this thriving metropolis.

Education is highly valued and over 92% of the adult population has a high school diploma, as compared to the national average of 80%. 50% have Bachelor’s Degrees, whereas nationally the average is 24.7%. This was reflected in the median household income in 2000 of $73,241 as opposed to a national average of $41,994. Only 2% of the families were below the poverty line as opposed to 9.2 nationally. The average income per capita was $31, 326 and the average household income was $83,122. The largest majority of the people have professional or related occupations and their average commute time is 15-30 minutes as opposed to 36 minutes for most people in the U.S.



 
Burtonsville has attractive weather. It is slightly wetter than many places with 43.9 inches of rainfall a year compared with a 36.6” rainfall nationally. In winter there may be slight snowfall averaging about 10.6 inches, much less than 25.2 inches nationally. Precipitation days are about 101, comparable to the national average. In July, the norm is about 88 degrees and in January about 25 degrees. With an elevation of 400 feet it has a comfortably temperate climate with some seasonal variety.
 
Health concerns are well addressed in Burtonsville, as there are 649 physicians per capita compared with the national average of only 169. The air quality is slightly less than average with a rating of 20 (possible 100) and water quality is 50 (also possible 100)
The property tax rate is attractive in that it is only $11.95 compared with other cities’ averages of $13.28. The crime rate for both violent and property crime is comparable to the national average.
